IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa City police department says it’s outgrown its space, but there’s no clear plans for the future.
Iowa City’s police chief supported the push to enter a joint law enforcement facility with Johnson County, but that plan is now off the table after the county voted to build its own jail and office complex.
Part of the reason some Iowa City City Council members had a problem with a joint law enforcement facility was the timing. County officials want to put a bond referendum in front of voters in November of next year.
Now that Iowa City is going at it alone, there’s no deadline nor concrete plan for building a new police headquarters.
