Dear Carolyn: My fiancée and I got engaged and started talking about an engagement ring. I know she loves jewelry. She wears a lot of it, most of it made by friends of hers, and I’m big on the symbolism of this gesture, so we were both excited about picking one out. In return, she wants to buy me an engagement gift of a new set of golf clubs I’ve been wanting, and that’s great.
