Police in Mzuuzu arrested two Pakistani nationals on Thursday for allegedly being found in possession of ivory. The suspects have been identified as Shahid Amid, 43, and Shakeeb Khan, 48.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Cecelia Mfune, the arrest was the result of a special operation conducted by the National Police Headquarters’ Wildlife and Environmental Crimes team in collaboration with detectives from the Northern Region Police Headquarters.
Mfune stated that the operation was launched after police received a tip-off about individuals offering ivory and ivory products for sale. The two men were subsequently arrested behind Centenary Bank.
