The deep depression that crossed the Odisha coast on Thursday evening weakened into a depression and lay on this (Friday) morning over interior Odisha, 40 km south-southwest of Phulbani; 100 km east-northeast of Bhawanipatna; 140 km south of Sambalpur; and 190 km south of Jharsuguda (all in Odisha).

It may track north-north-west across interior Odisha and weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area during the course of the day today (Friday). Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a sever cyclone formation alert away from the Gujarat coast in fast-paced escalation witnessed overnight.

The alert was issued after a counterpart depression over north-east Arabian Sea intensified as a deep depression about 240 km west-southwest of Dwarka;
