Two weeks ago, sophomore offensive lineman Jake Guarnera started his first game for the Michigan football team. Two weeks before that, Guarnera wasn’t even slated to be first interior lineman off the bench.

A lot changed very quickly for Guarnera. Injuries to both the Wolverines’ starting guards catapulted him onto the field in Week 2 against Oklahoma, and he’s started both games since. But despite the sudden rise, Guarnera hasn’t changed one bit.

“It started in spring, and you saw the evolution of him, changing his body, changing his mentality of, ‘Hey, I’m not just a redshirt freshman, I’m a guy that needs to be ready to go play,’ ” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said Monday. “He did that in fall camp.
