Jack Steele has informed St Kilda of his desire to step down as captain.

The 29-year-old has led the club since 2021 and been one of the game's best midfielders across the 2020s.

In a statement, the club said Steele was also open to a fresh start and a potential trade. Advertisement

He joins club captains Oscar Allen (West Coast), Zach Merrett (Essendon) and Jy Simpkin (North Melbourne) to express interest in a move in this year's trade period.

"At his recent year-end exit interview Jack Steele advised the club of his desire to step down from the captaincy," the St Kilda statement read.
