A massive blast rocked the Los Angeles area Thursday night when a fire broke out at an oil refinery just south of LAX, according to reports.
Footage and images posted on social media captured giant balls of flames erupting into the Southern California night sky from the Chevron Products Company El Segundo Refinery.
“Officers and firefighters responded to the Chevron refinery in El Segundo after receiving multiple reports of an explosion,” the El Segundo Police Department said, according to CBS News. 3
The “major blast” struck the area at around 9:30 p.m., residents told the Los Angeles Times.
“I thought we got nuked or something,” Mike Rogers told the outlet, saying his adult soccer league match was canceled moments later because of the heavy smoke from the fire.
