CHICO, Calif. - As October rolls in, families are gearing up for the spooky season. However, pet owners should be mindful when decorating their homes for Halloween.

Pets are naturally curious, and certain decorations can pose risks. "They're fun for us and pets are curious about them as well so put them in places they can't reach," Melina Acra, a pet expert from Spot Pet Insurance, said.

Acra also emphasized the importance of micro-chipping pets, especially when trick-or-treating, to ensure they can be found if they get scared and run away.

Candy is another concern during Halloween. "Just make sure you're not leaving anything out where a pet can get it... xylitol can cause vomiting," Acra said.
