LANSING, Mich. — In the early hours of Friday morning, the Michigan legislature passed bills that, together, would give the state its full general omnibus budget to fund its departments, as well as its school aid budget to fund its K-12 public school system.

As lawmakers await final passage of a higher education budget, as well as further bills meant to provide sources of funding, both bills are now on their way to the desk of Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

According to an analysis from the House Fiscal Agency , tasked with summarizing funding bills, the general omnibus budget includes nearly $52 billion in spending.
