Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday emphasised that the country can easily achieve the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) goal by 2047 if it sustains a GDP growth rate of 8 per cent. She was speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave on the theme 'Seeking Prosperity in Turbulent Times'. “There are some challenging issues, such as the need to reform multilateral development institutions," she said.

Stating that the "current period is highly challenging", the finance minister said global uncertainty is causing a major concern. Going forward, she said, the nation's development will be driven largely by domestic demand that will also reduce the impact of global factors on the economy.
