In a Bruins preseason lineup loaded with guys on the bubble to make the varsity Thursday, Brett Harrison wasn’t a guy with a viable shot to make the opening night roster.
But coach Marco Sturm wanted to reward him with one more game after a good camp.
Harrison ran with it, scoring two goals in the Bruins’ 3-1 over the Capitals on Thursday in Washington.
It likely won’t be enough to put him into any conversations for next week, but won’t hurt his chances down the road.
“We wanted to give him a shot because he’s worked extremely hard this camp so far,” Sturm said. “I like his effort, I like his attitude, he’s a good kid. Every time in practice, a drill, you name it – he will give you everything. That is why we want to reward him.”
