GREENVILLE (WSPA) - Students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) have been developing automotive ideas since its founding in 2007.
Their latest creation could be an innovation for emergencies. Its name is Deep Orange 16, a rapid-response hybrid vehicle designed and built for use during disasters.
"It's got a diesel internal combustion engine as well as a generator," Gregory Mocko, the Director of the Deep Orange Program, said. "Each wheel has got electric motors that power it. It's got adaptive suspension so it can read the terrain and respond to the terrain."
Anshul Karn was a student at CU-ICAR and worked on Deep Orange 9, which was a next-generation rallycross car. Now, he's the Deep Orange Program Project Director.
