Homebuyers took advantage of lower interest rates in September, boosting the Greater Toronto Area housing market , according to the monthly report from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) released Friday.

The report said 5,592 home sales were recorded in September, up 8.5 per cent compared to last year.

Supply was also up in the month, with 19,260 new listings entered into TRREB’s system, a four per cent increase year-over-year.

“The Bank of Canada ’s September interest rate cut was welcome news for homebuyers,” TRREB president Elechia Barry-Sproule said in a press release.
