A newborn baby in Brazil has become a viral sensation after being photographed holding the intrauterine device (IUD) meant to prevent his conception.

Born at the Hospital Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Neropolis, the baby defied the odds by arriving despite his mother, Quidi Araújo de Oliveira, using contraception.

The photograph, shared by Dr Natalia Rodrigues who delivered the baby, captures the infant clutching the copper IUD, which was inserted into his mother’s womb two years earlier.

The photo caption read: “My victory trophy — the IUD that couldn’t stop me!"
