**Investigation Launched into Synagogue Attacker's Threats** Counterterrorism police are probing whether Jihad Al-Shamie, the man accused of attacking a synagogue, had previously issued death threats to a Conservative MP. Reports indicate that John Howell, who served as the MP for Henley from 2008 until 2024, received a series of threatening emails after he publicly defended Israel's right to self-defence. One of the emails was allegedly sent by someone using the name "Jihad Alshamie," who wrote, "It is people like you who deserve to die." However, it remains uncertain if this individual is the same person involved in the synagogue attack. Following the threats, Howell was provided with police protection and took measures to safeguard his personal information by removing details of his local office from his website. At the time, he expressed concern about the threats, stating, "The last thing I want to appear as is a drama queen, but you have to take seriously a threat when it says, ‘I would like to see you dead’." He emphasised that the threats extended beyond him, affecting his family and staff. Howell noted, "All it takes is one person out there who is weird enough, with a distorted view of life, to make an attempt to carry this out." He commended Thames Valley Police for their support, stating they provided him with "extremely good security advice" and added, "If I feel at all unsafe there can be a policeman with me at a surgery." The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the connection between Al-Shamie and the threats made against Howell.
