TVK Vijay Rally Stampede: Days after 41 people lost their lives in a stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, the Madras High Court Friday ordered setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under senior IPS officer Asra Garg to probe the September 27 incident. Garg is presently Inspector Genera of Police, North Zone, according to a PTI report.

It also came down strongly on the functionaries of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) over the incident .

After the stampede, Tamil Nadu DGP G Venkataraman had said the crowd gathered much earlier than planned after TVK’s official Twitter handle announced Vijay’s arrival by noon. The party had been granted permission for an event from 3-10 pm. This meant that people started gathering at the venue much before the scheduled
