AMESBURY — Lowell’s Boat Shop builders are venturing into the unknown with a new, large-scale project in the shape of a 38-foot-long Bantry Bay gig that will feature 10 rowing stations and is 7 feet wide.

“For us, this is absolutely the longest, biggest boat that Lowell’s has ever built in the shop,” said John Harvey, a Lowell’s boat builder.
