CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police , Lodge #9, has formally requested federal law enforcement assistance, including National Guard deployment, citing what the organization describes as violence and a staffing crisis.

"This isn’t politics — it’s a fight for our neighbors’ lives," FOP Lodge #9 said in a Facebook post.

In a letter dated Oct. 2, 2025, addressed to Charlotte city leaders, FOP Lodge #9 President Daniel C. Redford requested intervention from Mayor Vi Lyles, Gov. Josh Stein and President Donald Trump's administration.
