Two incumbents are running to defend their positions on the Evergreen Public Schools board in the Nov. 4 election.

Julie Bocanegra, 53, has served on the school board since 2012 and wants to continue her work ensuring students have pathways to careers. She is facing newcomer Jacob Smith, 33, who vows to avoid “the same old stuff.”

Ginny Gronwoldt, 46, has served on the school board since 2017. She said she’s committed to renewing the district’s equity efforts. Challenger Louis Bernard, 56, said he’s running because he’s concerned too many students aren’t meeting state standards.

“Public education is too important to walk away right now,” Bocanegra said. “There’s so many things that are happening, and I want to make sure that we keep our schools strong.”
