Plans to build a new incinerator in Warboys have been pulled after the project was recommended for refusal. Cambridgeshire County Council had been due to meet next week (October 8) to decide whether the proposed thermal treatment facility could be built at The Old Brickworks, in Puddock Hill.

However, the developer, Themeco Energy Ltd, withdrew the planning application earlier this week. The facility had been proposed as a way to generate electricity from burning waste.

The plans said it would have been able to process 87,500 tonnes of ‘refuse derived fuel’. This would have then generated electricity to both run the plans and export 8.8MWe to the National Grid.

The waste used at the facility was proposed to be non-hazardous and would have come from the adjacent Woodford Materials Recy
