PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has died after he was hit by a vehicle on Thursday in Maryvale, and police are searching for the driver responsible.

Phoenix police responded to the reported crash around 7 p.m. near 35th Avenue and Holly Street , which is south of Encanto Boulevard. Officers found a man who had been hit by a vehicle and had serious injuries.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Police identified him as 58-year-old Gilbert Campas.

Through initial investigation, police found that a vehicle hit Campas while he was crossing 35th Avenue and then fled the scene.

The involved vehicle was described as a light-colored pickup truck, according to police.

This incident remains under investigation.
