LOUISVILLE, Ky. — During a news conference, Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, announced he has appointed Louisville Metro Deputy Mayor David James as Jefferson County sheriff and State Sen. David Yates, D-Louisville, as Jefferson County clerk.
This comes after the Sept. 10 death of Bobbie Holsclaw and Sept. 23 death of John Aubrey . Both served in their roles for nearly 30 years.
“Sheriff Aubrey and Clerk Holsclaw were legendary public servants who each dedicated almost 30 years to our community, helping to keep us safe and our elections free and fair,” Greenberg said. “Today, I’m honored to appoint two dedicated public servants to these positions.”
Elections for both positions are set for 2026. A primary will be held in May, followed by a general election in November.
