MADISON (WKOW) — Gov. Tony Evers has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, in honor of Adam Zirbel, a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources forester who passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 22 at age 48.
Zirbel was known for his dedication to preserving Wisconsin's forestlands.
“Adam committed his life to preserving and protecting Wisconsin’s forestlands, and his sudden passing leaves behind a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing, loving, and working alongside him,” Evers said in a statement.
Zirbel was born in Madison and graduated from Sun Prairie High School, according to his obituary . He earned his degree in forest management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He served as a forester and wildland firefighter for 24
