RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) — First responders in Richmond put out a fire at Wawaloam Campground Thursday night.

The Richmond-Carolina Fire District said they were called to the campground around 9:30 p.m.

According to Richmond Police Chief Elwood Johnson, Sgt. William Litterio was first to arrive and saw the camper fully engulfed in flames.

Litterio broke down the entry gate and called in resources, playing a vital role in preventing the fire from getting worse, Johnson explained.

One person suffered minor burns.

The campground said on social media that the totem trail is currently closed to non-residents.
