NEWTON COUNTY, Ark. (KSNW) -- A Northwest Arkansas sheriff's department says a man is dead in what appears to be a bear attack.

Our sister station, KNWA, in Fayetteville, reports that it happened Thursday when deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office were called to check the welfare of a man camping at Sam’s Throne near the town of Mt. Judea in the Ozark National Forest. When deputies arrived, they found signs of a struggle and drag marks leading from the campsite and into the woods.

Deputies then located the man's body several yards away. His name has not been released, but he has been identified as a 60-year-old man from Missouri.

He had injuries that appear to have been from a bear attack, but the Arkansas Crime Lab will have to make a definitive determination of what exactly
