GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is reminding Michiganders to be on the lookout for suspicious text messages, also known as “smishing” scams.
Nessel’s office has noticed a rise smishing scams, notably ones that claim to be from the “State of Michigan Department of Vehicles.” According to Nessel, the messages falsely state that the recipient has an unpaid parking ticket that must be paid immediately to avoid penalties. A link included in the message goes to a fake payment site which can steal personal and financial information.
