Tarleton State coach Billy Gillispie coaches his team during a timeout Monday at the Don Haskins Center

Tarleton State men's basketball coach Billy Gillispie has been placed on a temporary administrative leave, the school announced on Friday, Oct. 3.

In a news release, the university said that the Texas A&M University System initiated an employee conduct review after receiving an anonymous complaint. There are no details of the nature of the complaint available immediately. There is also no timeline for how long the investigation could take.

In the meantime, associate head coach Glynn Cyprien will take over the head coaching role. The school said it will not provide any further comment at this time.

Gillispie has faced hot water before during his coaching career. He resigned as the Texas Tech coach in 2012, citing health concerns, after facing allegations of player mistreatment. His resignation came about a month after Texas Tech said it was opening an investigation into the allegations.

In 2009, he was fired from Kentucky after athletic director Mitch Barnhart deemed Gillispie "wasn't the right fit for the program," which stemmed from concerns about how he treated players and staff in the athletic department. He reached a $3 million settlement over his firing in 2009.

The 65-year-old coach was entering his sixth season as the head coach at Tarleton State. He was hired by the Texans on March 30, 2020, to guide the program from Division II to Division I.

The six-year stint makes this his longest stint with one school as a head coach. He has led the Texans to a 78-74 record, which included a 25-10 mark in the 2023-24 season and a CIT appearance. Overall, he is 226-182 as a head coach with four NCAA Tournament appearances.
