: In a significant political development, 16 Opposition parties in Assam came together in Guwahati on Friday, demanding a fast-track, court-monitored judicial inquiry into the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg.

The joint meeting was convened by the Raijor Dal, led by MLA Akhil Gogoi. Speaking after the meeting, Gogoi outlined three unanimous resolutions:

“First, all Opposition parties have decided to demand a judicial inquiry into the murder of Assam’s cultural heartthrob Zubeen Garg. Second, financial irregularities related to the organisers of the North East Festival must be probed. Third, the government must call an all-party meeting at the earliest. On October 19, a massive rally and tribute programme will be organised across Assam, with participation from artists and citizens.”
