JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A busy Jacksonville intersection has been funded to be upgraded with safety features.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced a project to improve traffic flow and safety at the Western Boulevard and Jacksonville Parkway intersection has been funded.

This intersection is near the Cross Pointe Center and Gateway Plaza shopping centers.

According to the release, the DOT signed a $8.5 million contract with Barnhill Contracting Co. for the project.

The project is scheduled to begin October 27th and will be completed by the summer of 2027.
