BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Congressman Troy Carter (D-La.) voiced his concerns for the safety of a New Orleans resident and veteran, Susan ‘Zue’ Jernstedt, who was aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The last boat carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza from the flotilla was intercepted Friday by Israeli forces. Israel Foreign Ministry wrote on X, "Already 4 Italian citizens have been deported. The rest are in the process of being deported. Israel is keen to end this procedure as quickly as possible."
Carter said in a statement that he is "closely monitoring this situation." He called the report of Americans detained "disturbing," adding that the release of those captured needs to be demanded.
