The United States Postal Service is temporarily increasing prices for the holiday season as of Sunday, Oct. 5, pending approval by the Postal Regulatory Commission.

The postal service said the price changes are being implemented "to help cover additional handling costs and ensure a successful peak season," according to a news release .

The prices were approved by the governors of the Postal Service, the agency’s governing body, on Aug. 7.
