GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 70-year-old man with dementia is safe after getting lost in Ogemaw County.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says conservation officers responded Tuesday after the man wandered away from his home in a wooded, rural area near M-30.
“Officers from the Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive on the scene and began searching with canine units. A Michigan State Police helicopter was in the air nearby and also searched the area,” the DNR said in a statement.
DNR conservation officers used a search and rescue method known as “lost person behavior” in their search. Hours after he left, officers found the man in a ditch about 100 yards from his home. The man did not require medical attention.
