After hearing two gunshots near Miller South School on Thanksgiving night, Akron police officer Davon Fields feared someone was shot — possibly killed — he told state investigators.

So, when a police cruiser pulled up and Fields saw the suspect reach for his front waistband, Fields believed lives were in danger and opened fire, a report by the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation stated .
