A forensic audit of the state's commerce agency, ordered in April by Republican Gov. Mike Braun following reports of potential self-dealing and conflicts of interest, pulls back the curtain on some of the recent activities of the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC).
The 124-page financial analysis, publicly released Thursday by Indianapolis-based FTI Consulting, found numerous instances of conflicts of interest, inadequate management and insufficient controls at the IEDC between 2022 and 2024, which "raises concerns about the potential for favoritism and misuse of public funds."
"Reforms and process improvements are necessary to address these weaknesses and ensure that state funds are used in a transparent and accountable manner," the consultants said.
