WAUPACA, Wis. (WBAY) - Attorneys for the man acquitted of two 1992 Waupaca County murders are denying the accusations laid out in a civil lawsuit against their client.

The brother of one of the victims, Tanna Togstad, filed the lawsuit against Tony Haase just days after the criminal trial ended.

The jury found Haase not guilty of the first-degree murder in the deaths of Togstad and Tim Mumbrue.

The civil action accuses Haase of the wrongful death of Togstad and asks for nearly $17 million in damages.

Haase’s response to the lawsuit asks the judge to either throw out the case or demands a jury trial. The response was filed Thursday.

A final decision on the suit has not yet been reached.
