TONOPAH, AZ (AZFamily) — The largest egg producer in the Southwest is trying to bounce back after a severe bird flu outbreak wiped out a majority of its chickens.

In May, Hickman’s Family Farms was forced to kill more than six million birds at its West Valley facilities.

On Thursday evening, the Arizona Department of Agriculture (AZDA) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) hosted a meeting at Tonopah Valley High School to inform community members on what steps the state has taken since then. Both agencies called this the state’s worst animal disease outbreak in at least 30 years.

A few dozen people showed up to the meeting. Their main concerns were water quality, and some who felt there was a lack of communication about this situation before it was already unfold
