Fans of the Krewe of Choctaw Mardi Gras parade may catch fewer plush spears, tomahawks, socks, crawfish trays and jumbo beads this year.

On Wednesday evening, a fire in the krewe’s storage facility in Harvey destroyed a stockpile of the krewe’s signature throws, as well as some costumes, ball scenery and other materials, according to Choctaw president Danny Meeks.

The sale of collectible throws to float riders is an important source of revenue for the parading group, Meeks said in a telephone interview Friday, and it is probably too late to replace these unique items by Carnival season 2026.
