Gov. Josh Shapiro pulled no punches Friday as he urged Republican lawmakers in Harrisburg and on Capitol Hill to end both a months-long state budget impasse and a federal government shutdown that started hitting workers’ paychecks and critical services Wednesday.

Mr. Shapiro, speaking at a news conference highlighting Pittsburgh’s Downtown revitalization effort, criticized Republicans ranging from President Donald Trump to the state’s GOP Senate leaders, who he accused of stalling for political reasons while workers, families and school districts miss out on state and federal dollars.

The governor said it’s been 241 days since he introduced his state budget. Since then, Republicans who lead the state Senate have only come to work for 29 session days, he said.
