Town of Newburgh Police have accused a Poughkeepsie man of robbing a gas station.

According to police, the Sunoco 7-Eleven gas station at the corner of routes 17K and 300 was robbed on Sept. 30.

Police said their initial investigation determined Demetrius A. Kelly, 30, from Poughkeepsie, entered the station at approximately 5 p.m. that day, displayed a weapon, stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled the scene.

Following an investigation, and with the assistance of City of Poughkeepsie Police, Kelly was located and detained in Poughkeepsie on Oct. 1. He then was transported to the Town of Newburgh for processing.

Kelly was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony; second-degree menacing and petty larceny, both misdemeanors.
