CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The story surrounding the brutal murder of 20-year-old Amanda Plasse in her Chicopee apartment has pulled at the heartstrings of western Massachusetts since 2011. Now, 14 years after her murder, her mother reached out to Western Mass News with concerns after getting a letter in the mail.

The letter stated that her daughter’s killer was up for parole, despite the fact that he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The situation comes after a 2024 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision that found mandatory life sentences without parole for “emerging adults” was unconstitutional

“I think it comes down to just when you think you’re done fighting that battle, here we are again,” said Michelle Penna, Plasse’s mother.
