In their game of the season thus far, the San Francisco 49ers silenced the critics as they pulled out a statement win over their divisional rival, the Los Angeles Rams, in overtime. After surviving a second-half surge from the Rams, backup quarterback Mac Jones hung on as they took control of the NFC West heading into week six of the season.
Here are the top three-rated players for the Niners on Thursday night, per Pro Football Focus.
(Must have played 20 or more snaps in the game to be eligible.)
1. Alfred Collins (85.0)
The Niners won in overtime off a stout run defense that stonewalled Kyren Williams on a fourth-and-1 in the trenches. Collins was the undeniable linchpin of San Francisco's front defense on Thursday, putting up a 90 in run defense over the course of the game.
He also had the marquee play of the night, as he punched the ball from Kyren Williams' grasp at the end of the 4th quarter at the goal line to preserve the game for the Niners in what would have been almost assuredly a game-clinching touchdown for the Rams.
Without Alfred Collins, San Francisco is flying home with a loss. Instead, he exits on Thursday, the hero.
2. Kendrick Bourne (80.6)
Bourne was the standout star on offense for the Niners against the Rams per PFF, putting up an otherworldly 142 yards on 10 receptions in the team's victory. With a majority of the team's top pass catchers sidelined with injuries, including tight end George Kittle, and starting quarterback Brock Purdy also out, it appeared that San Francisco would need a mini miracle to get anything going on offense.
Backup Mac Jones and Bourne disagreed, however, as their connection was unstoppable on the night, slicing through a flimsy Rams secondary that couldn't stop Bourne underneath in coverage. For a player who hasn't gone over 800 yards in a season since coming into the league in 2017, this could be a season-changing game not only for the Niners but also for Bourne.
3. Fred Warner (78.1)
Like Collins, Warner was a key reason why the Rams failed to establish any rhythm in the running game. One of the captains on the team, Warner, played every snap on defense Thursday night and anchored the defense that shut down the vaunted Rams offense in overtime.
