LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department on Friday announced the increase in speeding fines for the first time since 1996.

According to LPD, Lincoln Municipal Code has been updated to reflect a new state law increasing the fines associated with speeding violations.

The increased fines — along with additional court costs — are as follows:

$50 for 1-5 mph over (up from $10)

$75 for 6-10 mph over (up from $25)

$125 for 11-15 mph over (up from $75)

$200 for 16-20 mph over (up from $125)

$300 for 21-35 mph over (up from $200)

$400 for 36+ mph over (up from $300)

For 1-20 mph over, the fines will be doubled if the violation occurs in a school zone or a maintenance/repair/construction zone.
