LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A southern Kentucky community is mourning the loss of a beloved teacher and neighbor.

Candice Brackett died last week after a long illness. She was 43 and had taught first grade and kindergarten for many years at Colony Elementary near London.

People say she gave herself selflessly in many ways.

“She was a magnificent woman, period,” says her father, Randy Abner.

People turned out Friday morning for the final resting place and service for Brackett.

“That I’m never going to hear from her again. I find that overwhelming,” said Abner.

But Abner says the comfort going forward is remembering the outstanding legacy she leaves behind.
