DUNSEITH, N.D. (KMOT) - It’s a building more than 100 years old and a part of North Dakota’s history, and some have even called it one of North Dakota’s most haunted places.
The San Haven State Hospital in Dunseith is gone, but the land that it called home is getting a new chapter.
The EPA awarded the Turtle Mountain tribe a million dollars to clean up the abandoned hospital that stood silent for decades.
The 600-acre complex was built in the early 1900s for tuberculosis treatment.
Nestled in the Turtle Mountains, Lorna Meidinger with the State Historical Society said the site was chosen to provide favorable environmental conditions.
“Clear mountain air, just a wonderful setting. All the things that science at the time told them was good for treating patients with tuberculosis,” said
