SPARTANBURG — Former Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Russell Lynch, who was arrested in Mexico on Sept. 30, was released from jail Oct. 2 and is headed back to the U.S., much to the relief of his family.
“The best case scenario was supposed to be that he would be released to stay in that room we rented, awaiting his trial,” said his daughter, Lacy Lynch. “This is so far beyond the best-case scenario that the feeling is actually shock.”
After more than 20 years of service with the sheriff’s office and an unsuccessful political campaign against then-Sheriff Chuck Wright in 2016, Lynch moved to Montana.
