GREENBELT, Md. — A federal judge handed down a just over 8 year prison sentence Friday for the person who attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his home in 2022, far less than prosecutors' request of at least 30 years.

Sophie Roske hoped to kill the conservative justice before he could overturn Roe v. Wade, spending weeks researching and purchasing weapons.

Roske took a cross-country flight and showed up on Kavanaugh’s suburban Maryland street in the middle of the night with a pistol, zip ties and pepper spray before being arrested, court records show.
