RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A new Ronald McDonald House is coming to Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward.

The charity has been serving the community for nearly five decades.

This new house will have 50 rooms, allowing the organization to serve many more families who have children needing medical care.

“26,000 families a year that we serve. People come from miles away. People come from cities away, countries away, and so we have families that will stay with us for months at a time. Our average length of stay is eight nights,” Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Richmond CEO Emily Toalson said.

“It is a very uncertain, scary time for families. They often come to the hospital in an emergency situation, unprepared for what it’s going to mean,” Toalson added.
