AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than $8 million in grant funding Friday was distributed across over 30 organizations providing services to Texas veterans and their families.

The Texas Veteran's Commission (TVC) gave checks to nonprofits and local governments towards services like housing, service dog programs, mental health, transportation and family support services, the Texas Veteran's Commission said in a Friday press conference.

"Our veterans and their families have done a lot for our country and our state and this is a way the state can pay them back," said Tom Palladino, the executive director of the Texas Veterans. "These services from these organizations they provide a network of resources out there to meet our veterans needs."

This comes after the TVC in May approved more than $46 million
