Sharyland High School alum Eric Holguín announced his bid for Texas House District 41 earlier this week.

Holguín, a democrat, made the announcement Wednesday — the same day Valley attorney Sergio Sanchez announced he's running as a Republican to represent District 41, which covers parts of McAllen, Mission, Edinburg and Pharr.

Holguín currently serves as policy director for a national Hispanic civil rights organization.
