A statue honoring a local Tuskegee Airman and prisoner of war was reinstalled and re-dedicated to Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson in Detroit's Rouge Park on Friday, Oct. 3.
The 600 pound bronze statue was originally dedicated to Jefferson in 2024 but was stolen months after its placement in the park .
The opening event was sponsored by Detroit's Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship, Friends of Rouge Park, the Detroit Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen and Jefferson's family. More: 104-year-old WWII veteran Jack Jones leads Sterling Heights' 2025 Memorial Day parade
The statue is in Jefferson Plaza, located at the corner of Joy Road and Spinoza.
